Can I Add a Solar Battery to an Existing PV Setup?
For more complex or larger systems, or when there's already a photovoltaic (PV) installation on your property and you want to add a battery, you'll need separate battery and PV inverters. In this case, the battery is effectively connected to the PV system on the AC side of the inverters. These configurations are referred to as "AC connected" or "AC-coupled" batteries.
Types of Solar Batteries
There are four primary types of solar batteries: lead-acid, lithium-ion, flow batteries, and nickel-cadmium. In the UK, the most commonly available types are lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries.
Lead-acid batteries are generally more affordable than lithium-ion batteries but are less efficient and have a shorter lifespan. On the other hand, lithium-ion batteries come at a higher initial cost but offer an extended lifespan and increased efficiency.
